Ritualist earns beating after failed sacrifice attempt

A -32 –year- old man of Lusaka’s John-Laing Compound was almost lynched by members of the public after word went round that he abducted his two children for satanic sacrifices. Godfridah Kalumbi accused her husband Bernard Chimfwembe of tying her third pregnancy to ritual sacrifices. Kalumbi alleged that her husband sacrificed her pregnancy in exchange for wealth adding that he had once told her that he would travel to India to get rich. Kalumbi and Chimfwembe had been married for 10 years; but problems in their marriage began after two years of marriage. “We divorced last year because my husband was obsessed with riches such that he tied my pregnancy after he was advised that my unborn child was the ideal ‘candidate’. I could no longer stand Chimfwembe and the only option was divorce,” she said. “After we divorced, Chimfwembe stopped supporting the children financially and last week while I was away, he attempted to abduct them. I was fortunate that I had discovered him upon my return and I alarmed my neighbours,” she said. Chimfwembe’s attempt to exculpate himself failed as residents punched him before he was whisked away by his friends. Kalumbi accused her former husband of wanting to use their children’s body parts as ingredients for magical concoctions and charms. “I do not want this man to visit my children because he is evil. He wants to get rich by sacrificing my children but I will not allow this to happen,” he said. Meanwhile, Chimfwembe charged that his former wife (Kalumbi) was mentally deranged. “I went to visit my children and I wonder why she would accuse me of wanting to sacrifice my own children, “he wondered.

Herbalist supplies prostitutes with love portion

By Nancy Malwele Women of Chibolya Compound in Eastern Province have threatened to lynch a traditional doctor for giving charms to prostitutes. Some women claimed that prostitutes in the area had taken over their marriages due to the named traditional doctor who has been selling love portions on the street. One of the women Loveness Mumbi said the traditional doctor identified as Jacobs was in the habit of selling charms to prostitutes in night clubs. “Our husbands spend time and money on prostitutes and some have gone to the extent of taking over our marriages in the area. Last week we beat up one prostitute who started cohabiting with a married man,” Mumbi said. After word went round that ‘Dr.’ Jacobs was supplying the sex workers with concoctions, the women in the area have vowed to sort him out. And Maureen Sakala narrated that she was hounded out of her matrimonial home after she caught her husband red-handed with a sex worker. “When the whole incident happened, I went to visit my relatives but when I returned home, I found him in the company of a prostitute and he ended up chasing me. The prostitute bragged that my husband loved her more than he loved me and that she would ensure that he divorces me,” she complained. She said that after one month of being on separation, her husband ended up marrying the suspected prostitute. After Sakala confronted the prostitute, she confessed having cast a spell on him which was why he was with her.

Hair loss a combination of factors

hair losss

By Nancy Malwele Hair loss at an early age in men has become a common problem nowadays. It is not only an indication of a person’s poor lifestyle but also the high amount of stress one is undergoing. Boys in their late teens and early 20s are experiencing varying degrees of hair loss and seeking medical treatment for it. A renowned surgeon Dr. Henry Krishna said baldness has its root cause in the DNA. “Some people are genetically prone to hair thinning and baldness. Many of them have one or more affected family members,” he said. Dr. Krishna said after puberty, when the male hormones testosterone starts becoming dominant, the receptors get activated and cause hair thinning and eventually baldness. He said hormones are not the only cause for hair loss saying that lifestyle and external factors also play a definitive role. Dr Chrishna further noted that having a healthy lifestyle and eating the right food is vital in as far as hair loss is concerned. “Smoking, lack of exercise and alcohol consumption are some of the factors that promote premature hair loss. Smoking is the single most important factor which accelerates hair loss as nicotine damages the blood vessels of hair roots,” he said. He said that drinking plenty of water and juices was a way of maintaining good protein. He said people who over consume proteins are also prone to hair loss as is the case with body builders.

Weekly sex makes for happy couples, says study

A US study recently showed that having sex just once a week is all it takes for opoptimal happiness among married heterosexual couples and those in long-term relationships. The findings was based on surveys of more than 30,000 Americans collected over four decades, and are published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science. " Although frequent sex is associated with greater happiness, this link was no longer significant at a frequency of more than once a week," said lead researcher Amy Muise, a social psychologist and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto-Mississauga. Nobody Ever Tells You Marriage Can Be Lonely

By: Eve Aldana,Elle

In case you forgot, Sunday is the annual buzzkill also known as Valentine's Day. Though there's never been a better time to be a single lady, there's something about a day dedicated to coupledom that can really take the wind out of our self-sufficient sails.

"But you're married…."

I hear it every time I'm sharing cocktails with single friends, swapping stories in the dim, loungy light I rarely find myself socializing in anymore, listening to tales about failed dates and messy breaks, and I think to myself, They are right:

A Single Girl's Guide to Being Happy this Valentine's Day

It's Valentine's Day this weekend. Which means a weekend of enduring the sight of couples wearing cheesy coordinated outfits and men presenting stuffed teddy bears to girls, as well as the barrage of commemorative photos on social media. #truelove4eva
Funny how it's been years since this occasion was first given so much commercial value, and people still buy into the whole fanfare.

Why The Pressure? "Nigeria and Marriage"

Image result for marriageFor most Nigerian adults that have attained the age of maturity, the pressure to get married is very real. Sometimes it is so strong that young women are forced to take a stand and falsely certify themselves capable of living the rest of their lives with any male that gets to ask the question "will you marry me?". The society is partly responsible because of the way marriage is portrayed as if to say is a do or die affair. As soon as a girl graduates from the University, the question that follows is ' "When are you getting married"? She will often be compared to others in her age group that are married.

Most often girls who happen to be married under-rate the single ones and sometimes there are forced to start thinking that something must be wrong with them to still be single. Some go on social media networks like Instagram, BellaNaija, wedding digest etc and after perusing through other people’s wedding extravaganza, they begin to imagine what it would take to also make a big wedding statement in the various social media. Such desires to please the society comes with serious consequences when is not easily achieved. It can lead to low self-esteem, misplacement of priority by choosing life partners for the wrong reasons or in the worst case scenario settling for the position of being a second wife.

Often there is pressure from family and extended family although ultimately your family would want the best for you. On a normal circumstance any right thinking parents would want their child or children not to get married to a responsible person but the pressure is real. Relatives would sometimes ask questions like "what are you still waiting for" or "when are we meeting Mr. Right" and so on. They would go as far as advising you to be attending weddings and various functions for a better chance of finding a husband.

Any honest person will attest that it is a natural phenomenon to desire marriage at a certain age. It is often said that a woman's time is limited “Oge nwanyi n'ga aga". Moving forward self-confidence and positive approach should be encouraged. Marriage is a life time decision. If you rush into it, you will very likely be rushing out of it. Unfortunately, in Nigeria that even carries a bigger stigma, which cannot be explained. Let that be a topic for another day.

We encourage all our readers to share their experiences with us.
