By Nancy Malwele Hair loss at an early age in men has become a common problem nowadays. It is not only an indication of a person’s poor lifestyle but also the high amount of stress one is undergoing. Boys in their late teens and early 20s are experiencing varying degrees of hair loss and seeking medical treatment for it. A renowned surgeon Dr. Henry Krishna said baldness has its root cause in the DNA. “Some people are genetically prone to hair thinning and baldness. Many of them have one or more affected family members,” he said. Dr. Krishna said after puberty, when the male hormones testosterone starts becoming dominant, the receptors get activated and cause hair thinning and eventually baldness. He said hormones are not the only cause for hair loss saying that lifestyle and external factors also play a definitive role. Dr Chrishna further noted that having a healthy lifestyle and eating the right food is vital in as far as hair loss is concerned. “Smoking, lack of exercise and alcohol consumption are some of the factors that promote premature hair loss. Smoking is the single most important factor which accelerates hair loss as nicotine damages the blood vessels of hair roots,” he said. He said that drinking plenty of water and juices was a way of maintaining good protein. He said people who over consume proteins are also prone to hair loss as is the case with body builders.
